Like many other Midwestern states, Oklahoma has a huge trucking industry that relies on truck drivers and diesel mechanics. Becoming a diesel mechanic is an excellent way to get started in this field, as it doesn't usually require you to be away from home or travel long distances.

The one diesel technology program in Shawnee is offered at Gordon Cooper Technology Center. Classes tend to run full-time during the week. The program is designed to be completed in 12 months or 24 months, depending on your class schedule. You may even be able to start this program while you're still in high school.

Shawnee currently has a population of over 30,600 people that enjoy the city's very low cost of living. Old Highway 270 and Oklahoma State Highway 18 go through Shawnee. Local employers include Iron Tree Trucking, Whitewater Transports, and Gilbert & Sons Trucking.
